Sorrento
really is something very special, and I wrote this page to explain what makes it
so...
I had to scratch out everything I’d
written about Sorrento before, because it was starting to look like a
holiday brochure – and it was mean to be the exact opposite of that. You
see, my wife Marion and I have been holidaying in Sorrento at least once
a year, sometimes more, for the last nine years.
Every time we go there, Marion tells
everyone that we meet how many times we’ve been, and we turn into an unofficial
tourist information guide – people ask where should we go, how
should we get there, what Sorrento’s nightlife is like and so on.
We’ve been going so many times that
as we approach our favourite bars and cafes the owners and staff
come out to welcome us (lot’s kisses all around), it really makes you feel
welcome, and by the end of our holiday we’ve often filled those bars
with people that we’ve met in the last week or two – Marion is a real ‘people
person’, she makes friends far more easily than I do.
Towards the end of this years
holiday, I said to Marion that I’d like to create a website so that I could tell
people about how wonderful Sorrento is, and so the idea of this site was
born.
But when I came to write it out for
the first time around, it looked like something that I’d cut and pasted from the
Thomas Cook brochure – it just didn’t sound real, and that’s why I wanted
to tell people about – the ‘real Sorrento’.
So I started again, and here’s what
I’ll aim to do. I’ll tell you about the ‘must see’ places in and
around Sorrento, and I’ll also tell you which places are overrated. I’ll
tell you where we like to go, and I’ll tell you about the best way (and the
worst way) to get there.
One thing that I should point out is
that this site will obviously reflect our tastes, and they won’t suit everybody,
but I will tell you why we like and dislike whatever we mention so that you can
make up your own mind.
As you see it today, this site is far
from complete, it’s going to take me a while to put together everything I want
to, so it would be nice if you’d come back and visit us again, and if you’ve
been to Sorrento already, and you think I’ve missed something important,
then contact us and let us know and we’ll add it.
Also, if you have a question that
isn’t answered on the site, please feel free to contact us again and ask us – if
we can help, we’d love to.
For now though, have a look around
and see if you like the look of Sorrento as much as we do.
Ciao for now,
